James A. Cogdill, SRA Chairman/CEO
James A. "Jim" Cogdill has over thirty four years of experience as a commercial, industrial, and residential appraiser in California's Central Valley. Jim has been an SRA member of the Appraisal Institute since 1993, and is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser by the California Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers. In 1984, Jim started his appraisal career with Cogdill and Giomi as an associate residential appraiser and researcher. He soon expanded his practice to include commercial and industrial property valuation.
In January 2007, Jim and his nephew/business partner, David E. Cogdill, Jr., purchased ownership of Cogdill and Giomi from its founding partners, David E. Cogdill, Sr. and David R. Giomi. Jim and David, Jr. ultimately renamed the firm to Cogdill & Associates, Inc., and continue to maintain a long established reputation of quality valuation work.
Jim is well versed in all modern appraisal methods, and maintains a regimented continuing education program through the Appraisal Institute. Jim appraises all types of commercial properties, and has purposely maintained a unique residential practice with an emphasis on multi-family units. Jim has developed an expertise in a variety of specialized valuation assignments, including lending, estate planning, insurance, and litigation matters. Jim is also a qualified expert witness in property valuation matters, with many years of experience.
As a native Californian who grew up in San Benardino, Jim moved to the Central Valley in the early 1980's with his wife, Lisa. Jim has resided in Modesto, Riverbank, and Ripon since that time. Jim and Lisa have two adult sons, both of whom live and work in the area. He is active in the community, and recently began another six year term on the Community Hospice Foundation Board.
Jim continues with his passion in the business world as an experienced appraiser, ever mindful of the importance of reliable vaulation results.
David E. Cogdill, Jr. President/CFO
David began his appraisal career in 1993, when he came to Cogdill and Giomi as an associate appraiser and researcher. He soon expanded his practice to include commercial, industrial, residential, and agricultural properties. David has developed an expertise in a variety of specialized valuation scenarios including lending, estate planning, insurance, and litigation matters.
David is an associate member of the Appraisal Institute, and is certified by the "California Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers" as a general real estate appraiser. He also has a real estate broker's license issued by the California Department of Real Estate.
David is well versed in all modern appraisal methods and maintains a regimented continuing education program through the Appraisal Institute. He has testified as an expert witness in various hearings for municipal court and superior court in the state of California.
David and his wife Carrie live in Modesto and have two children. In addition to his professional interests, David has been active in the community, having served on numerous boards and commissions in both the private and public sector. He served on the City of Modesto Planning Commission and Modesto City Council from 2004-2006, and was elected to the Modesto City Council 2011-2015.
